Investigation of microbiological quality of powdered infant formulas and their suitability for formula preparation recommendations

The present study aimed to investigate the microbiological quality of powdered infant formulas on sale in Turkey and assess compliance preparation instructions recommended by formula companies with guidelines World Health Organization (WHO). In study, 36 belonging 10 different were analysed regarding presence Cronobacter sakazakii, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, coliform faecal coliform, mould-yeast, total mesophilic aerobic bacteria counts. C. sakazakii was detected two examined samples. At various levels, B. cereus nine, S. auerus four, eight samples found these identified values discovered above legal limits. When WHO evaluated, instruction requiring water temperature be >70°C, which is critical control not included any companies. Although determined limits, it observed that targeted could reached some prepared may adequate for food safety.
